I use mathematical models to study virus transmission and its impact on virus evolution. I am especially interested in the emergence of zoonotic diseases through cross-species transmission.
Additional research interests include developing Bayesian statistical methods for virology, ecology, and evolution research, and studying the historical contingency – or directedness – of adaptive evolution.
I obtained my PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Princeton University, where I was advised by Simon A. Levin.
