Peggy is a Co-Principal Investigator of COSEE-West (Center for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence), and her graduate students are also very involved.

COSEE-West provides outreach and education programs connecting educators, students and the public with cutting edge marine scientists. Through scientists’ lectures and teacher professional development workshops run by COSEE staff, we provide science content and hands on activities for K-12 teachers to implement in the classroom. Our partners include LA public schools, informal science centers, NOAA Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary and NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, among many others. In collaboration with our partners we create educational events throughout the city, develop curriculum, and provide online workshops that increase national and international ocean science literacy.

COSEE-West is a collaboration between UCLA, University of Southern California, and the College of Exploration. It is one of 14 National Science Foundation funded Centers across the United States.

Peggy brings research and teaching expertise to COSEE through online workshops about Coral Reefs that feature undergraduate research during UCLA’s Marine Biology Quarter in Moorea, French Polynesia.
